Gold Run Nordic races launch cooperative effort

David JeffersonChief of competitionSummit Nordic Ski Club

Dec. 4, National Ratings List races were held at the Gold Run Nordic Center. More than 170 Nordic skiers, representing Nordic ski clubs from all over the state of Colorado, and five different collegiate teams, including the reigning NCAA champion New Mexico Lobos, participated. The Summit Nordic Ski Club would like to thank the town of Breckenridge for its tremendous support in helping us host this event. In particular, we would like to thank Derf Soller, Tim Walsh, Neil Burton and Jim Sanders for their incredible effort. Their help was invaluable. We put our new timing equipment into action at this race and it worked flawlessly. We would like to thank The Summit Foundation for helping us purchase this equipment, and Gary Giberson who helped with some of the costs and the set up of the equipment. All the skiers raced with new bibs, which were purchased through the generosity of Dr. Peter Janes and Vail-Summit Orthopedics. Thank you so much. Also, we would like to thank Woody Van Gundy and the Backcountry Brewery for hosting such a fabulous awards dinner. Thanks to the many Summit Nordic Ski Club parents who worked very hard to make this such a successful event. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Colorado High School State Ski Championships at the Gold Run Nordic Center in February.
