Gov. Ritter signs oil, gas rules into law
April 22, 2009
DENVER ” Gov. Bill Ritter has signed a bill that implements dozens of new and revised state oil and gas regulations.
The bill signed into law Wednesday caps more than 18 months of meetings and deliberations by state regulators, oil and gas officials, environmentalists, landowners and others. The rules were mandated by 2007 laws that require more consideration of the environment, wildlife and public health and safety when approving oil and gas development.
The rules were part of a larger bill that encompassed several different rules written by state officials.
The new oil and gas regulations took effect in most parts of the state April. State regulators have delayed the start of the rules on federal land until July 1 to sort through any conflicts between state and federal regulations.
