Governor heading to Arctic

DENVER ” Gov. Bill Ritter is leaving on a weeklong trip to the Norwegian Arctic to discuss global warming and observe its impact.

Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer said the governor was leaving Friday on the trip, which runs through July 19. Sponsors are the Aspen Institute, the National Geographic Society and Lindblad Expeditions.

Dreyer says Ritter was invited to discuss his Colorado Climate Action Plan, which calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 levels by 20 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.

Others on the trip include climate experts, Arctic specialists and representatives of industry, government, culture, religion and philanthropy.
