A Grand County Sheriff’s Deputy was killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident this morning, Tuesday Feb. 3, 2015.

Details about the incident were still being withheld by county officials as of noon on Tuesday. The death was confirmed in a press release sent out by the Grand County Office of Emergency Management. The event was also reported on the Grand County Office of Emergency Management (GCOEM) Twitter account.

The name of the deceased deputy is not being released but the press release issued by the GCOEM states the Grand County Sheriff’s Office will make an official statement Tuesday afternoon.

The accident involved a maroon extended cab pickup and a Meadow Gold dairy truck. It appears the larger truck slammed into the pickup’s driver’s side.

While the location of the accident is not being released at this time, local witnesses reported seeing the wreckage of a serious accident Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 34 with a wrecked vehicle covered by a tarp.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
