Guy Pacot: Down with Dems
September 7, 2010
I find it timely given the behavior of Obama and Congress these past 20 months that the Wall Street Journal’s op-ed piece Tuesday – “The Obama Economy – How trillions in fiscal and monetary stimulus produced a 1.6% recovery” – hit the nail on the proverbial head. Instead of doing what most economists and the CBO suggested at the time, which was to do what it would take to nurture an already severely waning economy, they instead plunged headlong down a path of social engineering and spending which would drive the nation $3 trillion more into debt and proceeded to expand government at a pace that had not been seen since the 1960s under LBJ’s “Great Society” push. What do we have to show for it? Other than the crippling debt the CBO warned would be there, we have 14.9 million unemployed, dipping auto and house sales, and an even further-worried small business sector that sees nothing but expenses in the way of fees, surcharges and regulatory measures.
Now, if you were to listen to U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s television and radio ads of late, you’d think that everyone in D.C. voted for these grand debacles but him. Well, the truth is an entirely different matter, since Senator Bennet voted for every last one of these of spending, borrowing, taxing and business-crippling measures. Why so suddenly has our illustrious appointed senator grown a fiscally conservative conscience? It’s because these measures have resulted in next to nothing when it comes to the bottom line for most Americans. It’s also because every poll from Gallup on down shows the dark foreboding cloud of an informed and angry electorate that will be sending a message this November.
So please Sen. Bennet, stop wasting your advertising money, we’re matching your voting record up to your rhetoric and let’s just say that your walk doesn’t quite match your talk.
Our CD-2 U.S. Rep. Jared Polis is not trying to distance himself from his voting record, but is trying to put spin on it that equals that of a straining jet engine on Pelosi’s personal government airliner when running back home to wine country to party with her liberal donors. The end result of Congressman Polis’s legislative endeavors only differs on a few counts from Bennet’s; not the least of which being Waxman/Markey’s cap-and-trade bill he and the House passed which would cost citizens thousands, small business tens of thousands, and corporate America millions if not billions and would further cripple our ailing economy. I wonder why the Senate hasn’t voted on this bill yet?
And to Congressman Polis I also say, stop the spinning; it’s not even close to reality. Well, not the reality that the rest of us have to live with.
So, to sum it all up, they’re more concerned about promoting a liberal progressive power-grabbing agenda than they are at turning around the economy and making all our lives better. That’s the reason they’re worried because they can’t successfully spin their way out of this mess they’ve created. Yes the Democrat-controlled presidency, House of Representatives, and Senate absolutely own this mess; lock stock, and barrel.
