Thanks so much for printing the story on my avey dog Rudy and myself, but I must say I am rather offended by the title “Patroller and cur certified for avey Rescue.” In my random House Webster’s College dictionary (Published 1992) the noun cur means a mongrel dog, esp. a worthless or unfriendly one and Rudy is anything but. According to Roget’s New Millennium Thesaurus (2006) the word cur does have a synonymous ties with dog, but in a very negative way. To use that word to describe a service dog that has proven himself in the line of duty is insulting. Rudy asked me if you could save the “c” word for crosswords and Shakespearian plays and not as a descriptive word for highly trained and well respected rescue dogs.
