Heidi Spurgeon: Summit County rentals out of hand

Heidi Spurgeon

I want to thank Jay Gunner and Gail Marshal for their letters of support in the matter of rental abuse in this county. I can’t stress enough to Summit County homeowners the importance of trying everything we can to get this under control. I’m becoming increasingly disgusted by the “look the other way” policy that this county AND other homeowners have adopted. I live in a neighborhood where one out of every four homes is used as a rental and I know that Summit Cove is in the same boat – so why don’t all the homeowners who live next to these houses (turned apartment complexes) speak up and put more pressure on the local government?

Summit County needs permanent residents to pay property taxes and to keep each city alive. Without us this will become a rundown county of rentals with no sense of community and a shrinking tax base, and trust me when I say I won’t live like this for much longer. Don’t just sit by and watch your hard-earned property value take a dive … contact your city and county government and let them know that this is unacceptable and we’re not going to watch it go on any longer. Again thanks for your support – and by all means, do something!
