Help get Katie to the Olympics

C.J. Mueller, Breckenridge

I just wanted to remind your readers that the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games will be Feb. 10 in Torino, Italy. Once again, Summit County will be represented in the Olympics. Katie Uhlaender, a Summit High School graduate, will be a medal contender in the women’s skeleton event on Feb. 16. Sadly, the U.S. Skeleton Team is not able to cover all of Katie’s training and racing expenses, including the repair of her stolen sled and ultimately the purchase of a new sled. I am asking your readers, whether they know Katie or not, to show their support by coming to Downstairs at Eric’s this Tuesday, Jan. 24 between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. We will have a printed banner “Go For Gold Katie Uhlaender” which we want signed by all who come by. Katie’s mom will then take the banner to Italy for the event. Warren Miller’s latest film “Higher Ground” will be shown at 6 p.m. We will ask for a minimum $5 donation at the door which includes a raffle ticket for many nice prizes. I will be showing videos and memorabilia from my 1992 Olympic experience and Matthew Dayton, 2002 Breckenridge Olympian, will be there as well.If you are unable to attend, please call me for information on how to contribute at (970) 453-2891.
