Highway work could cause delays near tunnel

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – Work resumed Monday on a project to improve Interstate 70 east of the Eisenhower Tunnel. The Colorado Department of Transportation project includes rotomilling, paving, new guard rails and striping from the east bore of the tunnel to Bakerville (mile 215-221).

Drivers can expect single-lane closures eastbound and/or westbound, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. until noon. Extensive delays are possible at times.

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph also is in place throughout the work zone.

Work is scheduled to be completed by early summer.

The first phase of the project was completed in October, and included new bridge rails and expansion joints, and new chain-up and chain-down areas at the foot of Georgetown Hill.
