Hill: Liddick raises important question on abortion

Bud Hill, Breckenridge

I appreciate Mr. Liddick’s treatment of Roe v. Wade. Pragmatic and systematic, he guides the reader to his main point-Roe v. Wade may have made abortion in all its forms legal, but it did nothing to address the real question: is it right?

For most Americans the battle ground contained in Roe v. Wade between the issues of pro-life and pro-choice is segregated from our morality and is certainly not a product of our imagination. Mr. Liddick challenges us concerning this with the question, is it right? Like the dilemma posed when told, “don’t think about monkeys,” once the idea is presented it is impossible to get around. So what’s your answer?

Is it important to answer? Yes, at least as it concerns the right to life of the unborn and the decision to abort faced by millions of women since 1973. The problem is most Americans are too preoccupied with themselves to go beyond the legal and pragmatic and face the moral and ethical consequences inherent in our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

Is it okay for us to sing John Lennon’s “Imagine” as it concerns a better world and leave imagining out when viewing the sonogram of a child in the womb? See the beating heart, the tiny hands and fingers, feet and toes. And on the other side, imagine the pain and anguish buried deep within the psyche of a woman who has had an abortion for whatever reason. As free will moral beings we are charged by our Creator to answer is it right correctly or be held accountable by a Court of Justice far loftier than our Supreme Court.
