Holly Robb: No third trial for Flint

Holly Robb
Breckenridge

Why in the world does the DA want to waste more tax dollars to pursue a third trial for Dennis Flint? A third trial would be ludicrous! A third trial will cost the district and the state thousands upon thousands of dollars. Both the DA and the public defenders will have to pay to fly in witnesses from out of state. They will have to pay experts to testify and pay for their own time preparing for another trial. Once again, hundreds of juror questionnaires will be sent out and almost as many jury summonses. Actual court costs for the judge, clerk, etc. and the costs continue from there. And for what?

To re-try a man for a third time ! How many times does he have to go before a jury of his peers before he is acquitted ? Two juries were not convinced he was guilty. Not once but twice the DA has failed to prove that Dennis Flint is guilty. Obviously this fact shows “reasonable doubt.” Twice ! Which means he is still innocent until he is proven guilty. I believe that is still the law – even here in Summit County! I would hope Mark Hurlbert will stop wasting his time and our tax dollars. At this point it seems very unreasonable to go forward with another trial. This isn’t personal Mark, but I believe it is time to walk away and give Dennis Flint back his life – or what little is left of it.
