Home Trends: Las Vegas Furniture Market
Special to the Daily
As I work into the New Year, I and the thousands of others in the furniture world get geared up for the up-and-coming Furniture Market in Las Vegas at the end of January.
It is always a time of anticipation for the unexpected trends that will be unveiled by existing furniture “big shots” along with the newest names working to make a breakthrough in this competitive world of home furnishings. If you thought Fashion Week in New York is big, think again!
There is indeed much anticipated for this upcoming Furniture Market. In fact, Pinterest is flooded with sneak peaks on this season’s trends that will be unleashed. From the forever-classic styles that we have seen for decades to the bizarre innovations, there is a place for everything at market.
In home accents, it appears that every hue of blue concocted will have its place within each showroom. I say bring it on!
Blue harnesses the quality of providing coolness and intuition for the viewer. With the busy schedules we are a faced with day-to-day, having a space that provides a calming atmosphere may be the ticket to helping you center yourself after a hectic day.
Patterns. Patterns. Patterns. Geometric patterns. Bright patterns. Animal print patterns. Abstract patterns. Patterns are everywhere! And the biggest effort in furniture is to train folks not to fear them. You can see these funky prints in rugs, lamps and accessories – even on sofas and arm chairs.
While most people may be intimated by intense patterns, interior decorators are emphasizing patterns with even more patterns. It can take time to train the eye to harmonize several prints together, but once achieved, the look is timeless and groovy.
Chic industrial fashions are all the rage. The purposeful distressing of furniture pieces is the final theme I am catching on to amidst the several images shared on Pinterest.
In the past, this design concept may have been referred to as shabby-chic. All together, the effort of combining metal detailing on rustic wood pieces has blown up.
The high-end furniture creators initiated the look, and it is now trickling into the more affordable brands. Keep your eyes open for these pieces with statement-making distressed details and don’t hesitate to work them into a more contemporary or rustic furniture theme that you may already have.
Upon my return from market, I will pass along my inner thoughts and takings from the event along with several images I will have taken personally. You will get the sneak showing of the upcoming furniture fashions for 2013 and beyond. Stay tuned!
