‘Humor on the Slopes’ celebrates Beaver Creek’s 25th anniversary
December 31, 2005
BEAVER CREEK – New York City and Beaver Creek collide this week as the resort hosts the “Humor on the Slopes Cartooning Festival,” starting Friday and ending Sunday.
The event will feature six cartoonists from The New Yorker magazine on a visit to Beaver Creek. The cartoonists are some of the magazine’s best-known, including Harry Bliss, Matt Diffee, Ed Koren, Bob Mankoff, Victoria Roberts and Jack Zeigler. During the festival, the cartoonists will be on hand to entertain guests with cartoon renderings, host a breakfast, do classes for children, appear at cocktail parties and more. There will also be a captioning contest – similar to the one the magazine runs on its inside back page every week – where people will have the chance to win prizes by suggesting the best caption.
Humor on the Slopes Caption Contest highlights the weekend. Each participating artist will provide a snow or winter snowsports-themed, caption-less illustration. Guests are invited to submit captions to the cartoons of their choice. The winners will be presented with the original art signed by the cartoonist and hand-lettered with their caption. All Humor on the Slopes events are free and open to the public.
Neil Diamond tribute band Super Diamond will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Vilar Center for the Arts as part of the resort’s 25th anniversary celebration. Tickets are $15 each and all proceeds benefit the Eagle County Public Education Foundation.
