Hurlbert is the only choice for DA

Alex de Ravel, Silverthorne

In this election, the voters of the Fifth Judicial District face a choice. Should they retain a gifted hard-working prosecutor who understands what it takes to do the job well or do they want to instead install a man who has spent his entire career “getting people off?”The challenger in this race has stated falsehoods in order to embellish his reputation. A few examples below prove this point:Bruce Brown’s allegation: Fifty percent of the DA’s staff has left in the past year.Fact: Since May 2003, a span of nearly a year and a half, only three of the 11 attorneys on the DA’s staff have departed, an amount that is nearly half of the 50 percent that Brown claims have departed.Allegation: Brown will build better relationships with law enforcement.Fact: In his own client newsletter Criminal Law Times, Brown in discussing a case in California, “The Rampart Scandal,” states, “My experience is that police lie the most when the accused is vulnerable, a minority or prior offender.” Are these the words of someone that can work well with local law enforcement? The only choice is District Attorney Mark Hurlbert, the experienced and truthful choice.
