I-70 closed between Silverthorne and the Eisenhower Tunnel Wednesday after accident

Update at 4:35 p.m.

A major crash on westbound I-70 has forced emergency workers to close both east and westbound lanes between Silverthorne and the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel, according to Steve Lipsher of Summit Fire & Ems.

A semi-tractor trailer carrying steel pipes rolled over while traveling westbound on I-70, crushing a passenger van in the process, according to Colin Remillard of the Colorado State Patrol.

Two individuals, both from passenger vehicles, were transported by ambulance to the Summit Medical Center with injuries. There were no fatalities.

Representatives from CDOT, Summit Fire & EMS, Colorado State Patrol, Silverthorne PD and Frisco PD are working to clear the wreckage. According to Lipsher, there are steel pipes scattered across both lanes, and the truck is blocking westbound I-70 completely.

The eastbound lane is expected to open within an hour. The westbound lane will likely remain closed for the next two-to-three hours, according to Remillard.
