I-70 construction continues, delays expected

Drivers should again expect delays on Interstate 70 at the Twin Tunnels this week as crews continue preparation work for a widening project that will close the eastbound highway lanes from April until November.

The right eastbound lane is closed on the west side of the Twin Tunnels, near Idaho Springs, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Friday to allow for the construction of a concrete wall. Eastbound traffic will also be stopped for 20 minutes every hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday for rock scaling operations on the tunnels.

The highway will also be reduced to one lane in each direction through the westbound tunnel through Friday while rock-scaling operations are ongoing, according to a statement from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
