I-70 closures impact traffic as winter storm descends on the mountains

Final update, 8:50 p.m.: I-70 eastbound between Exit 180 at East Vail and Exit 190 at Vail Pass and Copper Mountain has reopened, according to CoTrip.org.

Update, 7 p.m.: I-70 westbound between Exit 216 at U.S. Route 6 Loveland Pass and Exit 205 at Silverthorne has reopened. I-70 eastbound between Exit 180 at East Vail and Exit 190 at Vail Pass and Copper Mountain remains closed, according to CoTrip.org.

Update, 6 p.m.: I-70 westbound is closed between Exit 216 at U.S. Route 6 Loveland Pass and Exit 205 at Silverthorne due to a stalled vehicle, according to CoTrip.org.



5:45 p.m.: As of about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, I-70 eastbound was closed at Vail Pass and CoTrip.org reported icy spots along almost the entire corridor from Idaho Springs through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels past Vail.

I-70 eastbound was closed between Exit 180 at East Vail and Exit 190 at Vail Pass and Copper Mountain, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.



The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch.
