SUMMIT COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation is closing eastbound Interstate 70 by Silverthorne for two nights next week for overhead sign installation. On Monday and Tuesday, June 19-20, eastbound I-70 will be closed at the Silverthorne/Dillon exit (205), from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. All traffic will detour to U.S. 6 through Dillon, over Loveland Pass, returning to I-70 just east of the Eisenhower Tunnel.”There shouldn’t be a significant increase in traffic through Dillon. That’s why we picked the times we did,” said Bob Wilson, spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Transportation.Safety considerations require the highway closure, he added, since a large variable message sign is being installed over I-70, just west of the Tunnel entrance. The sign is 26-feet long and 8-feet tall, and will provide traffic and safety information to eastbound travelers.
