I-70 traffic stops, lane closures set for this week

The Colorado Department of Transportation will be conducting traffic stops of up to 20 minutes on Interstate 70 eastbound and westbound at Georgetown Hill Tuesday, the department announced in a statement Friday.

Stops are set to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. and continue through mid-afternoon with a few 20-minute stops over a three- or four-hour period at the Georgetown interchange, exit 228 westbound and at the Silver Plume interchange, exit 226 eastbound.

CDOT will also be closing one of the right westbound lane from 10:30 a.m. to sundown Monday through Thursday over a one-mile stretch from Idaho Springs to the Fall River Road interchange, likely causing slow downs in the area.

The closures and stops are part of an ongoing rockfall mitigation project and the work is weather permitting, according to the statement.
