Improvements in Summit County

Daily News staff report

The Summit County Open Space and Trails Department and other local entities have coordinated the following improvements to the Summit County Recpath system in the past year:

– A newly routed portion of the recpath east of Miner’s Creek Road and the County Commons to make way for construction of the Summit Medical Center.

– A newly constructed portion of recpath and bridge east of West Keystone Road underpass in Keystone. This route will provide improved access to Keystone/ Mountain House base area and will serve as the main “arterial” route through the Keystone Resort.

– A newly repaved portion of the recpath through Bill’s Ranch adjacent to Frisco, east of 7th Street.

– The Town of Silverthorne constructed a new pathway section from the north end of the Dillon Dam Road to the Blue River ball fields/ fairground area. This new section greatly improves pathway access from Dillon Reservoir to the Town of Silverthorne.

– The Barney Ford Trail, a new single-track trail constructed by the Town of Breckenridge and Summit County. See page 63 for a description.

The proposed Swan Mountain Recpath will provide a critical pathway connection between Farmer’s Korner and the Snake River Inlet, thereby completing the pathway loop around Dillon Reservoir.

Following the U.S. Forest Service preliminary approval of the pathway’s alignment, Summit County Open Space and Tails Department has commissioned preliminary design drawings of the pathway and is actively pursuing funding opportunities for the estimated $11.78 million project.
