Independence Pass to close Nov. 7

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close Independence Pass for the season at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7. The closure includes the area from just east of Aspen to west of Twin Lakes – a distance of approximately 18 miles.The 12,095-foot pass is closed every winter for the traveling public’s safety and for maintenance, according to CDOT.The alternate route to Aspen from Summit County is Interstate 70 and State Highway 82 from Glenwood Springs. Every spring, CDOT plans the opening of the pass for Memorial Day weekend in May, weather permitting.
