Indy 500 winner Lazier to run for Vail town council

VAIL DAILY STAFF REPORT

VAIL – Indianapolis 500 winner and lifelong Vail resident Buddy Lazier says he will run for a seat on the town’s council.

Lazier says he is running for one of four open seats because he loves Vail and because he is familiar with the issues affecting the town. The 41-year-old Vail native is raising his two children in the town where he grew up.

Lazier won the Indianapolis 500 in 1996. He now races part time and plans to continue but says he’s “willing and able to put in the heavy hours” with the town council.

The election will be held Nov. 3. Vail Town Clerk Lorelei Donaldson says she received Lazier’s nominating petition Friday.

Vail is a resort town about 100 miles west of Denver.
