Informative article

Thank you for writing such an insightful article on out-of-bounds skiers. I teach health & wellness classes at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Oregon. I constantly refer to brain research and the underdeveloped prefrontal cortex when discussing risk-taking behaviors of teenagers. I will be using your article in my classes as another example of how it happens that teenagers take such unhealthy risks. I tell my students that an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex does not give them an excuse for doing “stupid stuff”; they have to be ever-vigilant, instead, to think through a situation and consider all consequences before acting.Even though we live on the Oregon Coast (where it rarely snows) my husband and I were homeowners in Silverthorne for 10 years and had annual Summit/Vail ski passes. I read the Summit Daily from time to time to catch up on what is currently happening in Summit County. It is such a beautiful place; I miss it often. I appreciate the research you did to inform your readers as to WHY a young adult might take such dangerous risks.Tembra S. Lecrenski, Coos Bay, Ore.
