Inner meanings make ‘Racing Stripes’ a good movie

Michelle TrelevenBreckenridge

I was appalled to read Merida Toet’s letter Jan. 19 about the movie “Racing Stripes.”She said she got the general message of the movie but she clearly had no idea what the deeper meaning was.It has very little to do with a zebra in a horse race. It does however have to do with the grief of a husband in losing a wife. It shows the examples of bullying and racism. These are real issues that our kids face every day.It does show that it takes courage to survive in a world where you may be different. It does show that with inner strength and perseverance you can succeed at even the impossible dream.Even my 6-year-old daughter who is a horse lover knows that a zebra could never run in a horse race. She also knows the deeper meaning, and by the way, she also knows that horses, zebras and animals alike, do not talk.
