Interlaken Fire caused by abandoned campfire near Twin Lakes now 100% contained

The fire burned more than 700 acres near the historic Interlaken Resort at Twin Lakes, located south of Leadville

The Interlaken Fire Burning near Twin Lakes is now 100% contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The wildfire, which was caused by a campfire that was not properly extinguished, has been burning near the historic Interlaken Resort south of Leadville for almost two weeks. As of Monday, June 24, the fire was reportedly burning on 704 acres, which is equal to about ⅘ the area of New York City’s Central Park.

About 80 fire personnel remain on scene, according to the Interlaken Fire Information Facebook page. For public safety, the U.S. Forest Service has closures in place for the burned area and some of the surrounding recreational areas.
