Jack HT Chang MD: Put tax dollars on education, not fancy medians

Jack HT Chang MD

It was interesting to read two articles by Mr. Robert Allen on successive days. The first being a discussion of a proposal to inflict a perpetual tax on homeowners in order to “beautify” Highway 6 to the tune of $5.6 million. The second reports on “dire budget cuts ahead for county and schools.” I cannot help but feel there is a disconnect here, given our present economic situation, between common sense and priority. Are there really rational, sane people in this county who think it is more important to build a median and plant flowers along Highway 6 than to provide a proper education for our children? Let’s put tax moneys to use where it is desperately needed – to support our schools and teachers. The federal government is very adapt at legislating perpetual entitlement taxes on the American people. We don’t need it at the county level for a highway.
