James Williams: Tax refugee against Obamacare

Some people think mandatory health insurance will help people who are employed, uninsured and low-income. Most who believe that have never lived under a government that requires buying a premium as a legal requirement. If you do not spend your rent money on premiums, they will take your grocery money as a penalty. The politicians do not call this a tax increase, they call it health care reform.

Massachusetts has the highest health care costs in the US, and companies, jobs and people are leaving. I was one of those who left. If Mass. has the best system in the US, why are more people leaving than moving to Mass.? By a score of 49-1, the states do not want this. I lived there for two years under the mandate law, and never had health insurance and never saw a doctor. That was by no means free. Governor Romney, a millionaire, who signed the bill into law, declared in that law everyone who made $15,600 a year gross income to be rich enough to buy insurance or pay up to a $229 penalty. This was in a state where the average apt costs $1,300 a month. When governor Patrick took over, he raised the penalty to up to $972.

Obama, Pelosi and Bennet are all rich and support forcing people who make less than $20k a year to pay penalties for not having insurance. Some say this health care reform will reduce the deficit. If you force tens of millions of people with no discretionary income to pay penalties from their rent or grocery money, it will cost the taxpayers hundreds of billions in housing subsidies and food stamps.
