Jason Bruton: Poisoning the Earth

In regards to the recent letters about Global Warming. Does the science really matter? Does it matter if there is global warming or not?

We sit and debate about who is right and who is wrong. My science is better than your science, no, mine is. In the meantime, companies continue to pollute and poison the earth, global warming or not.

It’s especially easy for us in Summit to debate against regulation. We don’t have a coal-fired plant in our back yard ruining the air. We don’t have mountain-top removal destroying the land and water. We don’t have offshore drilling destroying the ocean and our livelihoods. Perhaps if we did, the naysayers may have a different view of climate regulation.

For the people that live in areas that are affected by our pursuit of non-renewable resources, this debate isn’t about global warming. It’s about keeping their homes, land, lives from the poisoning in pursuit of profits. Maybe we should feel the same.

Regardless if the Earth is warming or not, regardless if it is man caused or not; the flesh and blood of our home is poisoned, and its time to fix it.
