Jeff Bell: Cut emergency vehicles a break

I am writing this to teach some people the proper way to yield to emergency vehicle and tow trucks. I am a tow truck driver and I noticed a lot of things the night of Jan. 17 on I-70 eastbound going to the tunnel. There were multiple cars and semis that needed help because of the bad weather, and there were many occasions where people on the road would NOT yield to tow trucks and emergency vehicle. We are trying to get up the road to get the cars off the road so everyone else can get to their home.

So here is what I’m trying to say: When you see us driving up the side of the road, please yield to the right or left to let us by. Don’t get all mad at us and yell or curse at us. Or, like one mad drive, run us off the road, as happened to one of our other drivers. He was very lucky he did not roll the truck and get hurt. That is just not right, we are trying to help everyone, not make them mad. We are all about safety, so be nice and yield to all of us.
