Jim Brown and Roberta Robinson: Vote ‘Yes’ on Park County school bond issue

Jim Brown and Roberta Robinson

This is an unbelievable opportunity that our community cannot afford to pass up! Here are three reasons we support voting for a new, state-of-the-art, energy efficient school campus that would be funded with a 50 percent matching grant.

1. If the referendum passes, raising the other 50 percent will increase property taxes on a $100,000 home by approximately $30 per year. As residents with grown children, we feel this is a small price to pay for quality facilities to educate our future leaders and business people.

2. The building projects themselves will bring jobs and business to the county for several years, stimulating our economy and potentially lowering our unemployment rate.

3. South Park High School was recently rated in the top 10 schools in the state. It achieved this distinction using 19th century facilities. The residents of the school district need to put their money where their mouth is and show real support for the teachers and students earning these accolades. Just think what they could do with 21st century facilities!

There are many more reasons we need to vote YES on this issue. But it’s seeing the sacrifices made by dozens of friends and neighbors, committed to finding the most cost-effective solution to our unsafe, outdated school that compelled us to write this letter. Thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this happen.
