John & Pat Taylor: Let’s move on Silverthorne’s trail system

We were saddened to learn of a 11th hour lawsuit threatening the timing and completion of this very important next step in the Blue River Trail system. The Silverthorne Parks, Open Space, Recreation and Trails Citizens Committee (SPORT) in addition to the Town of Silverthorne has been involved with this project since the late 1990s. Numerous exhibits and public hearings for each phase and the overall plan have been held. The focus of this trail system from the start was to provide a safe alternative path between the south and east side of the Blue River (the library, town hall, recreation center, Rainbow Park) with the north and west side of the Blue River (the elementary school, North Pond Park, and Angler Mountain Trailhead.) Providing a pedestrian-friendly community path system without the need for vehicle transportation, the crossing of roads, streets and driveways, a community where residents as well as children can reach these amenities safely with the added benefit of good healthy exercise. The long-standing easement for this connection is provided for and the town has attempted to work with property owners to determine modifications to the present easement to improve the layout of the path for everyone. The current easement will work. This east side route is obvious as the present path stub end which was constructed over 15 years ago ends just north of the North Branch Library begs for connection to be made to Tammy’s bridge and Phase 4 that was completed last year to the east side.Let’s get on with it. Time is money!
