Jollie Jepsom: Protect tourism, McInnis for governor

I read the article by Scanlan/ Schwartz on protecting our forests and couldn’t help but think about the upcoming governors race and the type of leadership we need. While I am proud of the work Sen. Schwartz has done to get legislation passed, I believe Gov. Ritter has acted way too slowly. As the article mentioned, Colorado received over $11 billion from travel and tourism in 2008. This is no small chunk of money and one that we definitely cannot afford to loose amidst our budget shortfall. More importantly, we cannot afford to lose the jobs the tourism industry brings to Coloradans. The only candidate in the race who has the experience to protect our forests and who has proven that it would be among his priorities is Scott McInnis. With his work on the Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health while in Congress, he has worked on these type issues and has stayed personally dedicated to them. I feel he truly understands the severity and importance of protecting tourism and the Colorado’s forests. While the signing of bill SB 10-177 is a long awaited accomplishment, there is still a lot of work to be done and we need someone like Scott McInnis to make sure it gets done.
