Jury convicts man in careless driving case that killed Kremmling man

SUMMIT COUNTY – A Commerce City man was convicted Thursday of careless driving causing death regarding an incident on Colorado 9 north of Silverthorne March 14, 2009.

Vincent Colmenero, who was 45 when the incident occurred, faces up to one year in jail, a fine up to $1,000 and four points against his driver’s license. The sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.

“This case was a lot of work for our office and the Colorado State Patrol, and that hard work showed in this verdict,” DA Mark Hurlbert said in a press release.

The crash caused the death of 62-year-old James Dyer of Kremmling, who suffered massive chest injuries despite wearing a seatbelt.

Colmenero was driving a Ford F-350 flatbed truck when he lost control and crossed the center line into the southbound lane of traffic, according to the press release.

The six-member jury deliberated nearly four hours before arriving at a verdict Thursday.
