Kathy Bennett: Obama has support of U.S. troops

Kathy Bennett

There is a grassroots organization called Blue Star Families for Obama (BSF4O) which supports Obama primarily because of his voting track record, his ideas to strengthen our military and his legislative support on veteran affairs. The group was started by Army and Marine Corps spouses who believe supporting Obama reinforces the support of loved ones now serving in the military. Though BSF4O honors John McCain’s service to his country, they firmly believe that Barack Obama is the candidate who will best protect the health and strength of the country’s military and their families in these challenging times.

The troops agree that an Obama presidency will be right for this country. They are showing their support in dollars. The Center for Responsive Politics has found that Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has John McCain.

Barack Obama has an 80 percent overall rating from the Disabled Veterans of America in comparison to John McCain’s 20 percent. In addition, McCain received a “D” grade from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. Obama was co-sponsor of the Webb GI Bill, which revolutionizes education benefits for recent military veterans. He has supported many legislative acts for the military and veterans. Obama supports plans to increase the Army by 65,000 soldiers and the Marine Corps by 27,000 troops. His focus is on defense modernization and troop readiness. He also believes that we must build and strengthen special operation forces, civil affairs, information operations, human intelligence, counterinsurgency and other units and capabilities which are in short supply.

Blue Star Families for Obama are actively seeking new members. If you have a family member serving in the military ” e.g. a spouse, child, parent, sibling, aunt, uncle etc. ” and are pro-military. go to http://www.BSF4O.com and join. All voting records pertaining to military are documented and can be obtained through this group.
