Kathy Swanson: Reasons to vote ‘no’ in Silverthorne

Kathy Swanson
Silverthorne

Here it is, short and sweet. The Top 10 Reasons to Vote NO on August 14:

10. The town’s decision to exercise its authority regarding eminent domain was necessitated by the unwillingness of the property owners to work with the town to come to an agreement on the building of the path surrounding the 1963 easement.

9. Silverthorne town councils have been striving to beautify Silverthorne (remember “Trailerthorne?”) and to provide outstanding amenities for its citizens for over 40 years. Let’s not derail their continued efforts for the common good.

8. Our Silverthorne Elementary students need a safe passage while riding their bikes to school.

7. There are plenty of dirt trails in the county. What are needed are more paved trails that are handicapped-accessible.

6. Don’t let fear-mongering overrule common sense. The town will not be recklessly seizing people’s property, as has been implied.

5. The property involved in the eminent domain proceedings will allow the path to be constructed with minimal impact to existing trees and wetlands.

4. Let’s connect Silverthorne to the countywide recreational trail system.

3. We need to encourage a healthy lifestyle of walking and bicycle riding for current and future generations.

2. Let’s not let the selfishness of a few rob the rest of us of the opportunity to recreate safely along Silverthorne’s crown jewel – the beautiful Blue River.

1. The dream of the Blue River Trail has been envisioned and anticipated for many years. Let’s come together as a community to make the dream a reality.
