Keystone, Breck host Mardi Gras parties

KEYSTONE The River Run Events Plaza has been converted into the Big Easy for Keystones 10th Mardi Gras celebration. Join in the festivities for the largest Fat Tuesday gathering in the Rocky Mountains. The event kicks off at 2 p.m., party-goers will celebrate New Orleans style with live music, a delicious gumbo competition and a festive float parade in River Run. The Otone Brass Band, a high-energy, eight-piece ensemble will have you on your feet from 2-4 p.m. and for those looking for some Cajun cuisine, restaurants are participating in a gumbo competition. Food critics and culinary masters will be on hand to award prizes in such categories as Best Gumbo, Most Original Recipe and Peoples Choice. Outside bars will also offer drink specials in commemorative hurricane glasses.The annual Mardi Gras Parade winds its way through River Run Village at 4:30 p.m. Judges will be awarding a $400 cash prize to the best float, based on theme, originality and quality of presentation. Floats are judged on entertainment each performs a song, dance, skit or other form of entertainment in the center of the events plaza. Float riders are also throwing beads to the crowd, ensuring that everyone gets into the spirit of the Big Easy. A Mardi Gras King, Queen and Jester will be crowned prior to the parade, chosen from nominated Keystone employees.Keystones River Run Mardi Gras party ends at 6 p.m. The Green Light keeps the party going with DJ Hillen and hurricane drink specials. In Breckenridge on Fat Tuesday, a festive Main Street Mardi Gras procession will take place at 4:30 p.m. Watchers will enjoy a feast of beads for their evening festivities. Post-procession parties will be held at various restaurants and bars around town.
