Keystone Freestyle Center would be a positive influence

Meisha M. Lawson, marketing and sales coordinator, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

I am entering my second season working for Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in the marketing and sales department. Throughout my first season, I was often involved in planning and coordinating numerous events for A-Basin, many that involved local freestyle athletes.

These athletes were always well-mannered and easy to work with. The proposed freestyle center at Keystone Resort would be beneficial not only to these young members of our community, but also to the community as a whole.

It is my understanding that the main obstacle standing in the way of the freestyle center is zoning. Allowing a zoning change for this area will produce recreational opportunities for the citizens of Summit County that do not currently exist.

This center will not only provide a place for athletes to train, but also a facility for the individual members of the community to partake in various activities.

I believe the members of our community should put objections aside and imagine the positive influences that our youth will experience in a state-of-the-art recreation facility.

This will give them a place to train and improve year round in the sports they enjoy the most.

Keystone Resort and the Landon Sawyer Foundation did not begin discussing the possibilities of the freestyle center until the decision was already made to close Keystone’s tennis center. With that decision already made, why not continue to improve facilities for the Summit County community?
