National flatpicking champion Tyler Grant, former guitarist of the Drew Emmitt Band and the Emmitt-Nershi Band, comes to the Snake River Saloon in Keystone tonight and Saturday with his quartet, Grant Farm.

“We just wanted to bring more joy to the world and remind the music fans out there that music does not need gimmicks, mandolins, tablas, turntables, overalls, washboards or dress suits to be thrilling and fun to dance to,” Grant said on the band, which began rehearsing in 2011.

Completing the quartet are drummer Chris Misner, also of the Drew Emmitt Band and Leftover Salmon, bassist Adrian “Ace” Engfer and keyboardist Sean Foley. Group members have shared the stage with The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Motet and Head For The Hills among others.

“We play everything from classic rock to country-rock to bluegrass-rock to funk-rock to jam band rock to rockabilly to reggae – you know, everything,” Grant said.

Grant Farm recently released a self-titled debut, which Grant called “a party in your CD tray,” consisting of all original songs, “mainly just the four of us rocking out.” Guest artists on the album, nicknamed “honorary farmers,” include Bill Nershi, Keith Moseley and Andy Thorn.

Locally, the group played River Run Rocks with Great American Taxi in July and sold out three20south in March – but group members’ Summit County connections run much deeper, with numerous past appearances as members of their former groups. In fact, Misner was drumming for Leftover Salmon on the episodes of “After the Catch” filmed in Breck for the Discovery Channel this year.

Current projects include a second album and a free publication, “The Grant Farm Almanac,” to include band news, tour dates, creative writing, music lessons and journalistic pieces. Fans can sign up at http://www.grantfarm.net; to hear their music, tune into KSKE and the NRC365 radio stations.

Grant promises “nothing but a good time” tonight and Saturday at the Snake.
