Kidz Calliope opens Tuesday with Jafrika

Daily staff report

BRECKENRIDGE – The Breckenridge Riverwalk Center Kidz Calliope Series presents Jafrika at 7 p.m. Tuesday. This critically acclaimed multi-ethnic trio interweaves live music, evocative dance and poignant poetry in an interactive performance that dazzles audiences.

Take the first two letters of Japan, the middle letters of Africa and the last few letters of America, and you come up with “Jafrika” – a name that represents the differing cultural backgrounds of its members and melds three diverse creative disciplines. Jafrika delights audiences with a unique blend of song, dance and poetry. Right off the bat, this amazing group will have you singing and dancing in an exciting performance that develops awareness of different cultures and tolerance for the diversity found among the people of the world. Jafrika wows the audience with a presentation that is ever-changing and important to all ages.

Group members TingZen (Chris Macor), Ricki Harada and SETH each have more than 20 years of experience as actors, musicians and dancers. Founding member TingZen uses modern computer technology to accompany himself on guitar, keyboards, bass drums and backing vocals. Dancer Ricki Harada credits his unique style of dancing to his extensive study of ballet, mime and traditional Japanese dance. A writer of short stories and poetry, SETH is one of Denver’s most visible performance poets. The diversity and range of these performers further enhances this unique and innovative experience.
