LaFrance to enter beauty contest

DILLON – Summit Middle Schooler Brittni LaFrance dances, acts and snowboards. Later this month, she’ll try something new and compete in a beauty pageant.

LaFrance, 12, is a contestant in the Nationals, Inc. Miss Pre-Teen Denver pageant, set for March 30.

She is the daughter of Dillon Valley residents Share and Mark LaFrance, and sister of 15-year-old Danielle LaFrance.

LaFrance, who is soft-spoken and polite, said she was completely surprised by the call from pageant officials, particularly since she and her mother had driven to Denver thinking the tryout was for a modeling role.

When the call came, LaFrance had a one-word reaction: “Wow.”

“It was pretty amazing because I went down there just to have fun.”

So far, LaFrance has confided only in her best friend about the recognition.

“I definitely don’t want too much attention,” she said.

Nevertheless, she’s excited and nervous about the impending competition.

LaFrance will compete with other pre-teens, modeling formal and casual wear and interviewing with judges. Personality is the most important aspect, say contest judges.

If she wins the title of Miss Pre-Teen Denver, LaFrance will represent Denver at the Cities of America National Competition in Orlando, Fla.

The blond-haired, blue-eyed sixth-grader said she wants people to learn about inner beauty, “and how important it is to believe in and be yourself.”

“I’ve always had my dreams set on being the best I can be,” she said.

LaFrance plans to work as an elementary school teacher someday.

Any business, organization or individual who wants to sponsor LaFrance may do so by calling pageant coordinator Patty Neidert at (800) 569-2487.
