The Lake Dillon Theatre Company continues its popular First Sundays Cabaret Series with “Easy to Love,” featuring William Lucas, one of the theater’s former artists in residence.
“The First Sundays Cabaret Series celebrates the cabaret solo artist,” said Chris Alleman, the theater’s producing artistic director. “In celebration of our 20th anniversary season this year, we are presenting a different intimate cabaret the first Sunday of each month. Each concert features a different solo performer, who will share their stories and the songs that have influenced or inspired them in some way.”
“Easy to Love” features songs of Cole Porter and other lovers of love. A feel-good tour of love, this cabaret will cover it all through Porter classics such as “All Through the Night,” “Let’s Do It” and “I Love Paris” peppered with other songs of love such as “Marry Me a Little,” by Stephen Sondheim, and “Bring it on Home,” by Sam Cooke, plus many more.
“‘Easy to Love’ was inspired by my love of Cole Porter and the fact that many of his songs in some way center on a theme of love,” Lucas said. “Whether romantic or otherwise, the adoration of a person or thing is at the heart of his music.”
Lucas returns to the Lake Dillon Theatre in this public performance after earning a Master of Music in voice performance at the University of Minnesota. Lucas previously performed in Lake Dillon productions of “Cabaret,” “Chicago,” “Into the Woods,” “The Rocky Horror Show,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Pinocchio,” “School House Rock Live!” and “A Holiday Review” and looks forward to returning to Dillon for this concert.
“I love Summit County,” Lucas said. “The one thing I love most is the warm, friendly and inviting people. Everyone feels like family; no matter how long it’s been since my last visit, it seems like no time has passed at all.”
“Easy to Love” features Lucas with music direction and accompaniment by Kevin Reeks.
“Audiences can expect to take a new appreciation and love for the standard Cole Porter songbook, as well as a fresh look on some modern songs,” said Lucas. “It’s going to be a great date night or a night out with friends.”
