Large fuel spill closes I-70 at Downieville
SUMMIT COUNTY ” About 15 miles of the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Downieville were closed on Friday morning when a tanker truck rolled over and spilled fuel on the roadway.
About 2,000 gallons of fuel spilled and the clean-up was expected to take several hours, according to a statewide emergency reporting system.
A detour has been set up on Frontage Road to Georgetown.
The Colorado Department of Transportation was also reporting the closure Loveland Pass due to adverse weather conditions.
A high wind advisory were in effect in Idaho Springs and Georgetown on Friday morning, and the chains were required on all commercial vehicles.
The temperature hit minus-18 at Denver International Airport shortly before 5 a.m., a record for the date, the National Weather Service said.
The old mark was minus-16 set in 1996.
