Lawmakers tentatively approve bills that put limits on toll roads

DENVER – Eastern plains residents in the path of the proposed “Super Slab” private toll road applauded Thursday as the House Transportation & Energy Committee approved bills requiring such projects to get the blessing of state and local governments along their routes.Robert Thomasson of the High Plains Coalition for Responsible Transportation Policy told lawmakers that people who moved to Elbert, El Paso and Weld counties recently were unaware their lives could be turned upside down by the proposed toll road along the Front Range on the plains east of the major cities, running from north of Fort Collins to south of Pueblo.
