Leadville man in fair condition after accident

SUMMIT COUNTY – A 48-year-old Leadville man is in fair condition at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver after a car accident on Highway 91 near Copper Mountain Wednesday.

Shannon Dale of Littleton was northbound on Highway 91 just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, said Linda Clark, Colorado State Patrol administrative support. As Dale attempted to make a left turn onto the opposing shoulder, her vehicle struck Darrell Tygart’s car as he was driving south. Tygart’s vehicle continued after the collision and rolled one time before coming to a stop.

An ambulance drove Tygart, who had a possible fractured skull and other injuries, to St. Anthony’s Hospital. Tygart was in fair condition Thursday, said hospital spokesperson Bev Johnson.

Neither Dale nor her passenger were injured in the accident, Clark said. Dale was cited for careless driving.

Monday night, law enforcement officers cited another driver for careless driving after he lost control of his vehicle, Clark said.

Silverthorne resident Brian Szalay was eastbound on Interstate 70 between Frisco and Silverthorne when his vehicle traveled across the highway median and across the west-bound lanes, where it collided with a guard rail before coming to a stop in the far right lane.

No other cars were involved in the accident, and Clark said Szalay was not injured.
