Liberal bias shows throughin Owens defense

Bruce Stanley Keystone

Regarding your July 1 editorial “Owens stands up to the right,” your liberal bias toward redistributing of wealth is showing again. In my view, your declaration defies logic that “Referendum C is not a tax increase, per se” because “it allows the state to keep state taxes that would otherwise be refunded under TABOR, for only five years.” A tax refund by any definition means that the taxpayer is due a refund because he overpaid tax. Therefore, how can not refunding the tax be rationally considered anything other than a tax increase? No matter how you want to spin it, tax refunds not refunded equate to tax increases. In other words, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck – it is a duck. Also, if I’m a taxpayer who is due a refund, and I expect to receive my refund (rather than have politicians spend it), does that make me “far right” as you asserted? I don’t think so.
