Three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn is set to triumphantly return to ski racing this weekend, competing at the FIS Fall Festival at Copper Mountain Resort from Saturday, Dec. 7, through Sunday, Dec. 8.

Vonn last competed in Feb. 2019 where she claimed bronze in the downhill race at the World Championships in Are, Sweden. Shortly after the competition, the decorated ski racer retired from the sport in large part because of a string of injuries.

After nearly six years on the sidelines, Vonn, 40, has decided to follow in the footsteps of athletes like Tom Brady and Brett Favre, announcing in November that she would be returning to the start gate this winter.

In the lead up to the FIS Fall Festival downhill and Super-G races, Vonn has been training at Copper with current World Cup athletes in preparation for the women’s speed season opener at Beaver Creek from Dec. 11-15.

Vonn and the U.S. Alpine ski team coaches chose the lower-tier race in order to improve her FIS rankings to secure a wild card for the World Cup. Vonn is scheduled to compete in the women’s downhill race on Saturday before racing in the women’s Super-G on Sunday.
