Lindstrom appointed to the pension reform commission

DENVER – House Speaker Andrew Romanoff appointed State Representatives Gary Lindstrom (D-Breckenridge) and Jim Riesberg (D-Greeley), to the Police Officers’ and Firefighters’ Pension Reform Commission. The committee meets once a year at the state Capitol. Members are trying to restore retirement pensions for a group of Colorado police and firefighters whose retirements were used several years ago to backfill budget shortfalls in Colorado. The state’s budget is still in a shortfall and there is no money to replace the pensions. Lindstrom spent 21 years as the undersheriff in Summit County, and played an integral role in the formation of Lakewood’s police department. Also a veteran, Lindstrom said he knows how important it is to look out for the men and women who risk their lives for public safety. “Ensuring this retirement fund is the least we can do for our public safety employees,” Lindstrom said.Besides his work as a public servant, Riesberg is a gerontologist who works with nonprofit organizations that specialize in protecting retirement plans for Coloradans. The meeting has not been scheduled, but is planned for later this summer.
