Liz Wickert: Donate to the troops

Liz Wickert
Summit County Rotary

Have you seen the collection bins in the City Markets, Safeway, Walmart and Walgreens, decorated with a sprig of holly, poinsettia and the US flag? They are waiting for you to make donations for our troops.

Throughout the year, but especially during the festive season, the Rotary Club of Summit County sends care packages to deployed men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They love receiving them – just look at the photos above the bins. This is one way in which the members of our mountain community can thank these brave young people for their service. With each of the bins is a pad listing suggested items by aisle. Please take a sheet and help us fill those bins with goodies. Thank you so much.

Cash donations, which will help to defray postage expenses, would be grateful received. Please mail checks to Summit County Rotary Charitable Fund, [a 501 (C) (3)], PO Box 4401, Frisco, CO 80443 and label the check for “Troop Support.”

If you have a loved one serving in Afghanistan or Iraq, do contact Liz or Al Wickert at 453-4778, or SummitRotary@aol.com. We’d love to get them on our mailing list.

As a Summit Daily News reader, you make our work possible.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
