Lloyd Brown: Kudos for our caring community

I am a professional animal rescuer from Miami. I frequently travel around the world rescuing animals in the wake of disasters and emergencies. I always enjoy any opportunity to visit your community and, when I do, I see a community that truly cares about the animal citizens.

Every time I walk around Breckenridge, I fill up my pockets with dog treats and am grateful to the many people who are willing to allow me to share a hug and a kiss with their furry family members. I was saddened to hear about Pancho’s passing and was impressed that SDN even printed the obituary for a dog. I was also happy to see in the same paper that the Town of Breckenridge had purchased 17 acres for the purpose of setting it aside as a wildlife passage area. You should be proud of the compassion your community shows. To quote Mahatma Ghandi: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Your community sets a high example for the rest of the world to follow.
