Local Armed Forces Day rally planned

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

SILVERTHORNE ” An Armed Forces Day/”Support Our Troops” Rally, is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, at the Elks Club in Silverthorne.

This rally is to recognize all active and retired military vets, and acknowledge those from our local community and surrounding communities who have joined in the military. Families of soldiers either already in Iraq or preparing to head overseas will have on-hand pictures and presentations.

There will also be a color guard on hand for the event. Military recruiters from every branch of the armed services will also attend, bringing a host of assets like a Humvee and climbing wall, and they’ll also provide general information about the armed forces.

Everyone is welcome to attend, donations will be taken to send “packages from home” to our troops. There will also be a barbecue for everyone who shows up. The event is tentatively planned to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Call Tim Gurule, father of an Army Ranger, at (970) 389-6846 for more information or to offer help.
